Dr. Alberto Sanz Cobena is a full Professor in the Department of Chemistry and Food Technology at the School of Agronomic and Forestry Engineering (ETSIAAB), Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM). He has led numerous research projects, including EU-funded FP7-ENV-2011 (2011–2015), national projects like PID2019-10792RB-I00 (as Principal Investigator), and private collaborations with Agrotain and EuroChem Agro. His international research experience includes positions at Wageningen University, ILRI (Kenya), and CNRS/UPMC (France). Academic Affiliation: UPM, Department of Chemistry and Food Technology Research Networks: Global Research Alliance, REMEDIA network (co-founder), UNECE Task Force on Reactive N International Collaborations: 10+ countries across public and private sectors His research focuses on nitrogen dynamics and greenhouse gas mitigation in agricultural systems, spanning parcel-scale experiments to national and Mediterranean regional analyses. Key methodologies include meta-analysis , nutrient budget modeling , and LCA-based carbon footprinting . He has published 55 SCI-indexed articles (50 Q1, 5 Q2) with an h-index of 23 (Web of Science) and 25 (Google Scholar), totaling 1,903 citations (WOS) and 2,819 (GS). Recent work emphasizes agroecological transitions (e.g., Farm to Fork Strategy), nitrogen circularity , and sustainable food systems . His articles highlight innovations like the NBCalCer model for nitrogen cost-benefit analysis and OpenToolFlux for GHG flux estimation. He has directed 20 final-degree projects, co-supervised 3 PhD theses, and tutored Juan de la Cierva postdoctoral researcher Eduardo Aguilera Fernández. His outreach includes 6 organized international workshops and active participation in scientific dissemination events like Semana de la Ciencia.
