Associate Professor
Dr. Erin Makarius is the Department Chair and an Associate Professor of Management at the University of Akron's College of Business. She holds a PhD from The Ohio State University, an MBA, and a BS from John Carroll University. PhD, The Ohio State University MBA, John Carroll University BS, John Carroll University Her research focuses on boundary spanning in organizations, including work-life balance, virtual work, and internationalization. She explores how relationships and reputation influence employee mobility and remote work effectiveness. Dr. Makarius has received international media coverage for her work in outlets like the Wall Street Journal and Harvard Business Review. Her research includes 15 recent publications on topics such as corporate alumni programs, AI integration, and cross-border strategies. Faculty Research Grant, The University of Akron (2019, 2017) Service Excellence Award, The University of Akron (2019) Best Paper Awards (Academy of Management, Labor and Employment Relations Association) She teaches courses in human resources, leadership, and virtual work. Dr. Makarius serves on editorial boards, professional organizations, and institutional committees, including the Society of Human Resource Management and Academy of Management executive board.
