Andrea McArdle is a Professor of Law at the CUNY School of Law, where she teaches experiential courses in judicial rhetoric, urban land use, and community lawyering. She chairs the Curriculum Committee and directs the Legal Writing program, shaping the law school’s writing-intensive curriculum. Her interdisciplinary work focuses on urban governance, climate adaptation, legal pedagogy, and the intersection of law with narrative and voice. McArdle holds a J.D. from NYU School of Law, an LL.M. from Columbia Law School, and a Ph.D. in American Studies from NYU’s Department of Cultural and Social Analysis. Her research explores urban land use policies, climate resilience, and the societal impacts of policing. Notable contributions include co-editing books like Uniform Behavior: Police Localism and National Politics (2006) and Zero Tolerance: Quality of Life and the New Police Brutality in New York City (2001). She also organized a 2017 conference on climate change and urban resilience, emphasizing community voices in environmental justice strategies. McArdle’s recent scholarship includes reimagining public housing as a commons and analyzing Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s approach to the Fair Housing Act. She has been recognized for teaching excellence, including a 2013 award from the graduating class.
