Associate Professor
John N. Singer is an Associate Professor of Sport Management in the Department of Kinesiology and Sport Management at the School of Education and Human Development , Texas A&M University. He previously served as Assistant Professor at James Madison University (2009-2013) and held leadership roles including Associate Dean for the Office of Inclusive Excellence (2019-2023) and Sport Management Doctoral Program Coordinator (2024-present). His research focuses on race and racism at the intersections of sport, education, and society. Ph.D., Sport and Exercise Management, The Ohio State University M.A., Public Relations, Michigan State University B.A., Communication, Michigan State University Dr. Singer’s work employs Critical Race Theory and Black Critical Theory to examine racial dynamics in sport organizations, including systemic racism in college athletics, diversity initiatives, and minority athlete experiences. He has published extensively on topics such as anti-blackness in sport management, racial barriers in Eurocentric sports, and the role of sport in political activism. His research projects include NCAA-funded studies on diversity best practices in Division I athletic departments and educational initiatives connecting athletics to academic outcomes. He has served on editorial boards for the Sociology of Sport Journal and Journal of Sport Management . He has also been a basketball official (2006-2020) and active in golf equity initiatives through the Western Golf Association and Evans Scholars Foundation.
