Hamish Laing is a Professor of Innovation and Advanced Engagement in the School of Management at Swansea University, with a dual career spanning NHS clinical practice and academic leadership. He served as Executive Medical Director and Chief Information Officer of an NHS Health Board in Wales until 2018, founding the South Wales Sarcoma Service. Since 2018, he has held a personal chair in management, leading the Academy of Value-based Health and Care (VBHC) under the Welsh Government’s Intensive Learning Academies Programme. He chairs the Wales Digital Inclusion Alliance and represents Wales on the EFPIA Value-based Healthcare think tank in Brussels. His research focuses on value-based healthcare, digital inclusion, and healthcare leadership, with contributions to policy implementation, outcomes-based agreements, and digital transformation in healthcare systems. He teaches on MSc and DBA programmes at the VBHC Academy, emphasizing values-driven management and strategic healthcare innovation. Laing’s awards include the Faculty of Medical Leadership and Management Senior Founding Fellowship and the Faculty of Clinical Informatics Fellowship. He advises on NHS digital services, including the DSPP program, and serves as a Non-Executive Director of the Life Sciences Hub Cymru Ltd. His work integrates clinical expertise with managerial innovation, addressing healthcare’s complex challenges through interdisciplinary collaboration and evidence-based strategies.
