Sin Yi Cheung is a Professor of Sociology at Cardiff University's School of Social Sciences and a Fellow of the Learned Society of Wales. Her research focuses on sociological inequalities, particularly migration, refugee integration, race/ethnicity dynamics, and educational/labour market disparities. She employs quantitative methods and administrative data to analyze systemic inequities in welfare systems and policy impacts. Her work includes groundbreaking studies on ethnic disproportionality in child welfare systems using Welsh administrative data (2011–2020), post-Brexit migration dynamics, and pandemic-era societal challenges. She has co-authored over 50 publications and contributed to 10 editorial roles, including Frontiers in Sociology's Race and Ethnicity section. Key achievements include her 2025 work on educational outcomes for marginalized children in social care and 2022 analyses of refugee children's wellbeing.
