Associate Professor
Dr. Christopher Baird is an Associate Professor of Physics in the Department of Chemistry and Physics at West Texas A&M University's Paul Engler College of Agriculture and Natural Sciences. Since joining in 2016, he has taught general and advanced physics courses with a specialization in electromagnetics. Education: B.S. in Physics, Brigham Young University (2001) Ph.D. in Physics, University of Massachusetts Lowell (2007) Dr. Baird's research focuses on computational electromagnetics and terahertz imaging. His work includes the development of computational models for quantum cascade lasers—the first compact source of coherent terahertz waves—and the application of polarimetric terahertz imaging to detect subsurface defects in wind turbine blades. He has authored dozens of peer-reviewed publications and supervised original research projects for thirteen students across high school to doctoral levels. Previously, he taught graduate electromagnetics courses at the University of Massachusetts Lowell.
