Professor
Prof SL Braunstein is a Professor of Quantum Computing at the Department of Computer Science, University of York. He has held academic roles since 1996, progressing from Lecturer to Professor at the University of Wales' School of Informatics before joining York in 2003. He is affiliated with the Quantum Information research group and serves as a First Aider. Qualifications: BSc (Melbourne), PhD (Caltech), CPhys, FInstP. His career includes postdoctoral fellowships at institutions such as the University of Arizona, Technion, Weizmann Institute, and University of Ulm. Research focuses on quantum computation (algorithms, hardware), quantum information, quantum communication, and foundational topics in theoretical physics. He also explores black holes and early universe cosmology, integrating quantum principles with cosmological models. Recent publications emphasize quantum gravity experiments and interdisciplinary approaches using fluid analogues. Scientific Awards: Fellow of the Optical Society of America (2008) Fellow of AAAS (2011) Fellow of the Institute of Physics (2001) Prof Braunstein has contributed to funded projects like Quantum Readout Techniques and Technologies (EUROCOMMISSION, 2019–2023) and H2020-IF-QSB (2017–2020).
