Associate Professor
Carlo Rosso is an Associate Professor at the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (DIMEAS) at the Polytechnic University of Turin. He serves as a Member of the Academic Senate and the Committee for Teaching Coordination. His research spans multiple areas including gear dynamics, structural mechanics, biochar applications, and lightweight construction. His primary research interests focus on Biochar, Finite element method in structural mechanics, Gear dynamics, Gearbox design, Metal replacement, and Structural dynamics. His work bridges fundamental mechanical engineering principles with practical applications in aerospace, automotive, and sustainable materials development. Dr. Rosso's research integrates computational methods with experimental validation to address complex engineering challenges in power transmission systems and advanced materials. Analysis of his recent publications reveals a strong trend toward digital twin technology for mechanical systems, advanced materials for electromagnetic shielding, and optimization of gear dynamics. His work increasingly connects mechanical engineering with sustainability goals, particularly through biochar applications and lightweight construction techniques that align with SDG Goal 12: Responsible consumption and production. Editor of SHOCK AND VIBRATION journal (2020-present) Dr. Rosso actively supervises four PhD students across Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science programs. His research is supported by numerous commercial contracts and competitive funding, including projects like PRIME - Predictive maintenance for production processes (2021-2022) and several ongoing commercial research initiatives through 2026. He leads the ISED: Industrial Systems Engineering and Design research group within DIMEAS, focusing on practical engineering solutions for industry partners.
