Jonas Ebbesson is Professor of Environmental Law at the Department of Law, Stockholm University. He previously served as Dean of the Faculty of Law (2012–2017) and currently directs the Stockholm Environmental Law and Policy Centre. His roles include leading the Master’s programme in Environmental Law and fostering interdisciplinary collaboration through the Environmental Research in the Human Sciences Area initiative, which bridges Humanities, Law, and Social Sciences at Stockholm University. My research focuses on transboundary environmental law, emphasizing public participation, access to justice, human rights, and the legal responsibilities of transnational corporations in environmental and health-related litigation. I have conducted comparative studies on environmental law in the EU and explored compliance mechanisms under international treaties like the Aarhus Convention, where I chaired its Compliance Committee (2011–2021). Member of Swedish Academy of Letters, History and Antiquities As a consultant and legal expert, I have advised governmental and intergovernmental bodies such as the Swedish Ministry of the Environment, UNEP, and OSCE on issues including marine environmental protection, trade-environment linkages, and judicial training in Colombia. I also represent clients in environmental and health-related cases before Swedish courts and the European Court of Human Rights.
