Jozie Nummi is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Sociology and Communication Studies at Bemidji State University. She holds a doctoral degree, graduating in August 2022. Her research focuses on the intersection of collective identity, online communication, and political participation, with a particular emphasis on social media's role in protests and social movements. Her dissertation, 21st Century Protests in Ferguson, Missouri: Social Media Impact on Protest Communication , examines the dynamics between Twitter users, protest police, and news media during the 2014 Ferguson protests. She also investigates trolling behaviors by white men as a collective phenomenon driven by social networks and opinion leaders. Her research contributes to new media studies, race theory, social movement studies, and gender studies. She has co-authored a forthcoming article in Sociological Forum . Key research interests include racial and ethnic relations, policing sociology, gender dynamics, and new media technologies. Her work bridges theoretical frameworks with empirical analysis of digital activism and societal inequality.
