Professor
Bente Morseth is a Professor of Sport Science at UiT The Arctic University of Norway, leading the Sport, Physical activity and health research group and serving as Research Leader at the School of Sport Sciences. She also acts as Study Leader for the Master’s programme in sport sciences. Her academic background includes a PhD in Medical Sciences (UiT, Tromsø) and a Cand.scient. in Exercise Physiology from the Norwegian School of Sport Sciences. Her research focuses on the interplay between physical activity, health outcomes, and chronic conditions such as atrial fibrillation, chronic pain, and bone density. Key areas include epidemiological studies on exercise impacts, menstrual cycle effects on athletic performance, and the role of sedentary behavior in cardiometabolic health. She leads large-scale population studies like the Tromsø Study, analyzing over 20 years of data to explore physical activity correlates with mortality, bone health, and cardiovascular diseases. Her publications reflect a broad portfolio: from randomized controlled trials (e.g., NEXAF trial for atrial fibrillation patients) to cross-sectional analyses of accelerometer data. Recent work emphasizes gender-specific physiology in endurance athletes and the bidirectional relationship between physical activity and pain tolerance. Morseth’s academic leadership includes managing research groups and educational programs, contributing to policy-relevant findings on public health interventions and physical activity guidelines.
