Visiting Professor
Gerry Steele serves as a Visiting Professor at Loughborough University, holding professional designations including Chartered Chemist (CChem), Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC), Chartered Engineer (CEng), Member of the Institution of Chemical Engineers (MIChemE), and MAPS. His academic foundation comprises: BSc in Chemistry from Paisley College of Technology (1978) MSc in Applied Colloid and Interface Science from the University of Strathclyde (1981) PhD in colloidal drug delivery from the University of Strathclyde (1984) Professor Steele's research centers on Colloid and Interface Science, Drug Delivery, and Pharmaceutical Formulation, with specialized expertise in Crystallization processes and Process Analytical Technology (PAT). His work emphasizes physicochemical characterisation of drug candidates and development of robust active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) production methods, particularly through advanced crystallisation techniques and drug-membrane interaction analysis. His principal scientific recognition is Fellowship of the Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC). With 26 years of industrial experience at AstraZeneca R&D Charnwood, he progressed from Preformulation Team Manager (1985-2002) to Principal Scientist in Process Engineering (2002-2011), where he pioneered PAT implementation and resolved critical crystallisation scale-up challenges before retiring following site closure in April 2011.
