Research Professor
Evelyn Füri is a Research Professor (Directrice de recherche DR2) at the Centre de Recherches Pétrographiques et Géochimiques (CRPG), a joint research unit of CNRS and Université de Lorraine in Nancy, France. Her research focuses on the origin and evolution of light elements (H, C, N) and noble gases in the solar system, utilizing advanced analytical techniques including noble gas mass spectrometry and ion microprobe analysis. Dr. Füri received her MSc from ETH Zurich in 2004 and her PhD from Scripps Institution of Oceanography (UCSD) in 2010. She progressed through research positions at CRPG from Postdoc (2010-2014) to Chargée de recherche (2014-2024) and currently serves as Directrice de recherche since 2024. She obtained her Habilitation à diriger les recherches in 2022. Her research investigates the complex processes controlling light element abundances and isotopic signatures in natural materials, with particular focus on nitrogen behavior during planetary differentiation. She employs advanced techniques including noble gas mass spectrometry and ion microprobe analysis to study meteorites, lunar samples returned by space missions, and terrestrial volcanic rocks. Her work has significantly advanced our understanding of volatile element cycling in planetary formation. Dr. Füri leads two major ERC-funded projects: VOLATILIS (2017-2022) investigating the origin of volatile elements in the inner Solar System, and IRONIS (2023-2028) examining light elements in iron meteorites. Her publication record shows consistent high-impact contributions to cosmochemistry, with recent work analyzing samples from OSIRIS-REx and Hayabusa2 missions. Her research group at CRPG operates state-of-the-art noble gas mass spectrometry facilities and collaborates extensively with international space missions including OSIRIS-REx, Hayabusa2, and the Emirates Lunar Mission. She serves as co-director for multiple thesis projects focusing on lunar regolith, meteoritic nitrogen, and cosmogenic nuclide production. The CRPG laboratory, where Dr. Füri conducts her research, is uniquely equipped with static noble gas mass spectrometers for coupled N-noble gas analyses and secondary ion mass spectrometers for non-destructive volatile element measurements, making it a world-leading facility for cosmochemical studies of volatile elements.
