Associate Professor
Armağan Ateşkan is an Associate Professor and Vice Chair of the Department of Educational Sciences at Bilkent University, where he trains future teachers and coordinates faculty-school partnerships. He holds a Ph.D. in Computer Education and Instructional Technologies from Middle East Technical University (2008), an MA in Biology Teacher Education from Bilkent (2002), and a BSc in Food Engineering from Istanbul Technical University (1997). Research Interests: His work spans Curriculum and Instruction , Instructional Design , Education for Sustainability , ICT in Education , and Computational Thinking . He focuses on international education frameworks like the International Baccalaureate (IB) and their alignment with national curricula, sustainability literacy, and technology integration in science teaching. Recent Publications: Ateşkan’s 2025-2021 research emphasizes creative pedagogy , cross-cultural education , mentorship in biology teaching , sustainability assessment frameworks , and block-based coding in K-12 . His work addresses classroom management , emergency remote teaching , and teacher motivation , often integrating international and local educational contexts. Grants and Projects: He has led or participated in grants from TÜBİTAK (e.g., "Effective Mentoring Model" 2020-2023), UNICEF ("Teacher Capacity in Assessment" 2017-2018), and the International Baccalaureate Organization (e.g., "DP-MoNEP Program Alignment" 2013-2014), focusing on teacher training, sustainability, and curriculum development. Career Trajectory: After a brief career in food engineering (1997-1999), he transitioned to education. He taught at Bilkent Schools as part-time faculty (2000-2008) while completing his Ph.D. and worked as an Educational Technologist in Belgium (2009-2012). Since 2012, he has been full-time at Bilkent’s Graduate School of Education, becoming Associate Professor in 2020.
