Rebecca Schwei is a Researcher and lab manager at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health, working with Dr. Michael Pulia's Emergency Care for Infectious Diseases (EC-ID) research program since 2011. She manages large multi-site clinical trials and program evaluations both locally and internationally, with expertise in quantitative and qualitative analysis. Her educational background includes a BS from the University of Wisconsin–Madison and an MPH from Emory University Rollins School of Public Health. She is currently pursuing her doctorate in clinical investigation. Dr. Schwei's research focuses on health equity and communication in healthcare, particularly on patient-centered care outcomes for patients with Non-English language preferences (NELP) in emergency settings. Her work spans emergency medicine, infectious diseases, and antibiotic stewardship, addressing critical issues in healthcare delivery for vulnerable populations through both clinical trials and program evaluations. Analysis of her recent publications reveals a strong emphasis on emergency department operations during the COVID-19 pandemic, antibiotic stewardship in viral respiratory infections, and the impact of language barriers on patient care. Her research consistently addresses health disparities and seeks to improve care for non-English speaking patients and other vulnerable groups, with a notable focus on dysphagia screening and patient-centered care outcomes. As the lab manager for the EC-ID research program, she plays a key role in managing research projects that aim to enhance emergency care for infectious diseases, including multi-site clinical trials and program evaluations designed to promote health in vulnerable populations.
