Dr. Robert Ferguson is a Senior Lecturer at the School of Life Sciences , University of Essex. With a PhD in Microbial Ecology from Cranfield University (2014), he specializes in bioaerosols, antimicrobial resistance (AMR), and environmental health. His career at Essex includes roles as Lecturer (2020–present) and Senior Postdoctoral Research Officer (2015–2020). PhD in Microbial Ecology (Cranfield University, 2014) MSc in Sustainable Aquaculture Systems (Plymouth University, 2009) BSc in Marine Biology (Plymouth University, 2007) His research spans bioaerosol dynamics , AMR in aquatic systems , and pathogen detection . Collaborations with stakeholders in Essex focus on microbial water quality and pollution impacts. Key projects include Rapid monitoring of bioaerosols (RAMBIE) and novel chemical stressor frameworks for ecosystem assessment. Recent publications (2025–2020) emphasize bioaerosol exposure assessment , LAMP-based pathogen detection , and AMR environmental sources . He has supervised PhD student Drew Keenan Henderson and secured grants from NERC, The Aerosol Society, and the European Commission.
