Marco Ernst is a Research Fellow at the ANU College of Engineering and Computer Science, specializing in photovoltaic research. He holds a PhD from Leibniz Universität Hannover (2013) and has worked extensively on laser-processing techniques and high-efficiency silicon solar cells since 2014 at ANU. His research focuses on optimizing solar cell performance through advanced materials, numerical simulations, and optical modeling. Education: Physics Diplom, Leibniz Universität Hannover (2008) PhD in Physics (Dr. rer. nat.), Leibniz Universität Hannover (2013) Research interests include high-efficiency silicon solar cell design, laser-based processing, numerical device simulations, and optical modeling of solar systems. He has contributed to advancements in bifacial solar module performance, energy yield prediction, and circular economy solutions for photovoltaic materials. His work combines experimental and computational methods to address real-world challenges in solar energy systems. Notable contributions include methodologies for predicting energy yield losses/gains under field conditions and pioneering studies on laser-doped contacts and passivation stacks. He is affiliated with the Solar Photovoltaics research group and actively publishes in top-tier journals related to photovoltaic science and engineering.
