Senior Lecturer
Catherine Casson is a Senior Lecturer in Enterprise and Director of the Centre for Economic Cultures at the University of Manchester. She previously held positions at the University of Birmingham and University of Oxford. Her PhD (University of York, 2009) focused on forgery in medieval trade and manufacturing. Her research explores medieval urban economic strategies, property markets, and heritage’s role in modern economic resilience. Key projects include frameworks analyzing town reputation (1250–1500), property market dynamics in medieval England, and museum-driven civic identity. She collaborates with institutions like the Sustainable Consumption Institute and leads projects funded by the Alliance Business School. Casson’s work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to economic history and entrepreneurship. Awards include the 2009 Economic History Society New Researcher Prize. She co-supervises PhD students in medieval economic history and historical document analysis.
