Dr. Jeremy Shtern serves as Professor and Associate Chair/Undergraduate Program Director at Toronto Metropolitan University's School of Creative Industries. He previously directed the Joint York/TMU Graduate Program in Communication and Culture. His roles include academic leadership in graduate supervision and curriculum development, alongside founding the Global Communication Governance Lab. Education: Ph.D. in Communication (Université de Montréal), M.Sc. in New Media (London School of Economics), BA in Film Studies (Queen’s University), and a Certificate in Spanish proficiency from The Chang School. Research focuses on communication policy, digital governance, and media globalization. Key areas include internet regulation, creative labor dynamics, and the political economy of social media platforms. His work bridges academic research with policy advocacy, addressing challenges in global communication governance. Over $250,000 in external funding supports his research, including grants from SSHRC and FRQSC. He has served on review panels for national and international funding bodies, and his insights inform policy dialogues through invited talks at Yale Law School, the University of Sydney, and global conferences like IAMCR’s sessions on internet indicators.
