Professor
Juha Suoranta is Professor of Adult Education at the University of Tampere's Faculty of Social Sciences, where he researches and teaches social science methodology, public sociology, and critical pedagogy. His academic journey includes professorships at University of Lapland (1997-2004) and University of Joensuu (2004-2006), along with adjunct professor positions in music education at Sibelius Academy and media education at University of Tampere. His research interests span critical pedagogy, adult education, social justice, public sociology, and wikilearning. Suoranta approaches education as a tool for social transformation, emphasizing how sociological imagination helps address societal problems. His work bridges theoretical frameworks with practical activism, particularly evident in his advocacy for refugee rights. Analysis of his recent publications reveals consistent engagement with Paulo Freire's critical pedagogy, digital literacy, and social justice education.
