Professor
Henrik Larsson is a Professor of Epidemiology at Örebro University's School of Medical Sciences and maintains an active affiliation with the Department of Medical Epidemiology and Biostatistics at Karolinska Institutet. His career spans advanced psychiatric epidemiological research with emphasis on ADHD, utilizing Sweden's national health registers, twin studies, and molecular epidemiology. Dr. Larsson holds a PhD in Genetic Epidemiology (2005) from Karolinska Institutet and an MA in Psychology (2001) from Örebro University. His research focuses on developmental trajectories of ADHD, genetic and environmental risk factors across the lifespan, medication effects, and comorbid conditions. His group employs sophisticated genetically-informative designs including twin and family studies to disentangle causal pathways. His publication record shows consistent focus on ADHD etiology and outcomes, with recent work expanding into cardiometabolic comorbidities, mortality risks, and transgenerational patterns. The research demonstrates ADHD medication reduces criminality and traffic accidents without increasing substance abuse risks, and reveals both continuity and change in ADHD symptoms across development. Fuller and Scott Early Career Award, Behavior Genetic Association (2013) Supervised 10+ PhD students including Zheng Chang and Qi Chen (recipients of Chinese government awards) Dr. Larsson leads research teams investigating ADHD in aging populations, nutrition-lifestyle impacts on impulsive behaviors (Eat2beNICE project), and comorbid conditions (CoCA project). His work bridges epidemiological methods with clinical applications through quality registers and randomized trials, maintaining strong connections with psychiatric clinics across Sweden.
