Senior Lecturer
Dr Mark Law is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Chemistry within the School of Natural and Computing Sciences at the University of Aberdeen. He holds a BSc and PhD from the same institution and is actively involved in research and teaching. He is currently accepting PhD students and contributes to undergraduate instruction in physical and quantum chemistry. Academic Rank: Senior Lecturer Institution: University of Aberdeen School: School of Natural and Computing Sciences Department: Chemistry Education: BSc, PhD (University of Aberdeen) Dr Law's research focuses on molecular quantum dynamics, particularly the calculation of quantum state energies, wavefunctions, and potential energy surfaces. His work is essential to fields such as spectroscopy, astronomy, nanotechnology, and atmospheric science. A significant portion of his recent research involves quantum scattering and bound-state calculations of antimatter interacting with normal matter, with applications in medical imaging and materials science. His recent publications demonstrate a strong trend in theoretical and computational approaches to quantum scattering, especially in matter-antimatter systems. He employs high-performance computing and quantum scattering theory to model interactions and predict outcomes of collisions between antimatter and ordinary atoms. His earlier work centered on vibrational anharmonicity and molecular structure analysis using quantum-chemical methods. Dr Law has secured research funding from prestigious organizations including EPSRC, The Royal Society, The Nuffield Foundation, The Carnegie Trust, and the Royal Society of Chemistry. Upcoming Leverhulme Trust funding will support a major theoretical project on quantum dynamics of matter-antimatter collisions. He supervises PhD students and leads a research group focused on theoretical and computational chemistry. His teaching responsibilities include courses such as Quantum Chemistry, Energetics of Change, and Professional Skills for Physics and Chemistry. He also serves as a Personal Tutor and Level 4 Chemistry Course Coordinator. Dr Law is a member of the Theoretical and Computational Chemistry research group at Aberdeen and contributes to the broader research community through collaborative projects and PhD supervision.
