Teaching Professor
Dr. Kevin Ryan is a Teaching Professor and Distinguished Teacher-Mentor at Stevens Institute of Technology’s School of Business. He transitioned to academia in 2001 after 23 years at Bell Labs/Lucent Technologies, where he specialized in network access, data communications, and wireless networking. He teaches graduate courses on 4G/5G/6G wireless systems, software-defined networking (SDN), and network function virtualization (NFV), as well as undergraduate courses in Python programming, mobile app development, and data analytics. Education: PhD (1996) in Electrical Engineering, Stevens Institute of Technology MS (1980) in Electrical Engineering, Massachusetts Institute of Technology BE (1978) in Electrical Engineering (summa cum laude), Manhattan College His research focuses on dynamic spectrum allocation, 4G/5G/6G networks, network architecture, and quality of service. He has co-authored patents on spectrum allocation methods and published extensively in telecommunications journals and conferences. Ryan has received numerous teaching awards, including the 2023 Distinguished Teacher-Mentor Award and the 2019 Alumni Association Outstanding Teacher Award. Ryan has held leadership roles, including Director of the “Network and Communication Management and Services” graduate program and membership on the School of Business Promotions and Tenure Committee. His professional service includes grants funded by NSF and industry partnerships, such as the “Dynamic Intelligent Management of Spectrum for Ubiquitous Mobile Networks” project. He also contributes to patent innovations and has taught courses across multiple departments, including Telecommunications Management, Electrical and Computer Engineering, and Computer Science.
