Associate Professor
Assoc. Prof. Şule Gürboğa is affiliated with the Department of Geological Engineering at Istanbul Technical University's Faculty of Mines. Her research focuses on structural geology, active tectonics, and paleoseismology, with a particular emphasis on fault zone dynamics, seismic hazards, and neotectonic processes in Anatolia. She holds memberships in the American Geophysical Union (AGU), European Geosciences Union (EGU), and the Chamber of Geological Engineers. Education: Integrated PhD in Geological Engineering from Middle East Technical University (2003–2011), BSc in Geological Engineering from Ankara University (1996–2000). Additional professional training includes a degree from the National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies (2007–2008). Research interests span fault kinematics, earthquake mechanisms, and climate-geology interactions. Her work integrates field studies, remote sensing (e.g., InSAR), and geochemical analyses to unravel tectonic processes in regions like the North Anatolian Fault and the Marmara Sea. Recent studies include investigations of the 2023 Kahramanmaraş earthquakes and paleoseismic records from Anatolian lakes. Professional roles include serving as an Engineer at the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources since 2015, and prior experience in disaster management with the Disaster and Emergency Management Directorate (2012–2015). She has contributed to over 25 peer-reviewed articles and actively participates in international geoscience collaborations.
