Professor Ciaran O'Neill is affiliated with Queen's University Belfast's School of Medicine, Dentistry and Biomedical Sciences, where he holds the title of Professor. He also holds an honorary professorship at the same institution. His research focuses on applying economics to healthcare, examining policy impacts, new technologies, inequalities, and health attitudes across diverse populations and jurisdictions. He has supervised 12 PhD and 1 MD student to completion in the last 8 years but is not currently accepting new PhD students. Key areas of research include health economics, healthcare policy analysis, age-related health disparities, and the economic evaluation of public health interventions. Notable projects include studies on financial toxicity in cancer patients, oral health in care homes, and the impact of urban green spaces on health outcomes. He is actively involved in professional organizations, including co-organizing the Ireland Masterclass in Health Economics and chairing the Health Economics Association of Ireland.
