Professor
William Weinert is a Professor of Conducting & Ensembles and Director of Choral Activities at the Eastman School of Music, University of Rochester. Since 1994, he has led the Eastman Chorale and Eastman-Rochester Chorus while overseeing masters and doctoral programs in choral conducting. His work emphasizes rigorous training for conductors, resulting in student awards such as the Julius Herford Prize and top placements in national competitions. Education: A.B. in History and B.Mus. in Music Education from Oberlin College and Conservatory of Music; M.M. in Conducting (University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee), M.M. in Music History, and D.M.A. in Conducting (University of Wisconsin-Madison). Professional Experience: Former faculty at University of Wisconsin-Parkside, University of Wisconsin-Madison, and University of Southern Mississippi; guest professor at Staatliche Hochschule für Musik in Freiburg, Germany. He founded and directs Voices , Rochester’s professional chamber chorus since 2007, performing Baroque to contemporary works including Bach’s Passions, Mass in B-Minor, and complete motet cycles. His international engagements include masterclasses and performances in Europe, Asia, and North America. Notable achievements: Eastman’s conducting programs consistently ranked top nationally. Students have won ACDA national competitions. His ensembles frequently perform at conferences like the American Choral Directors’ Association (ACDA) and Music Educators’ National Conference (MENC).
