Senior Lecturer
Dr. Noorman Abdullah is a Senior Lecturer at the National University of Singapore (NUS), holding joint appointments in the Departments of Sociology and Anthropology, and Malay Studies. He serves as Assistant Dean for External Relations and Student Life in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS) and Pillar Chief for Singapore Studies at NUS. His research focuses on religion and society, sensory studies, decolonial pedagogies, and deviance and social control. He earned his Ph.D. (summa cum laude) from Bielefeld University, Germany, with prior degrees from NUS. Education: Ph.D. (summa cum laude), Bielefeld University, Germany M.A., Sociology, NUS B.A., Sociology, NUS Research Interests include sensory processes, decolonial pedagogies, and Asian societal studies. He actively contributes to organizations like the International Sociological Association (ISA), serving as Vice-President and Secretary-Treasurer of TG07 Senses and Society (2011–2023). His teaching spans topics like Singapore society, ethnicity, and Malay culture.
