Assoc. Prof. Dr. Meliha Rabiye ŞİMŞEK is a faculty member at Sakarya University, Faculty of Education, Department of Foreign Language Education. She holds a prominent role in English and Turkish as a foreign language education, contributing extensively to materials development, cultural representation, and teacher training. Her research interests include: Foreign Language Education Materials Evaluation and Development Cultural Representation in Language Teaching Use of L1 in L2 Instruction Service-Learning and Digital Storytelling in ELT Applied Linguistics and Teacher Education Her recent scholarly work demonstrates a strong focus on inclusivity, critical pedagogy, and innovative teaching methods. She has published on topics such as corpus-based analysis of refugee reading materials, emancipatory L2 instruction through digital storytelling, and gender representation in EFL materials. Her publications span high-impact journals in education and applied linguistics. Scientific awards include: TÜBİTAK 2224-A Support for International Scientific Events (2017) Cambridge University Bursary for Dewey2016 Conference (2016) ODTÜ Faculty of Education Dean's Service Award (2013) Buca Faculty of Education First Prize (2004) She has advised graduate students, notably E. Dundar, whose thesis she supervised. She has been involved in multiple national and international research projects, including TÜBİTAK-supported summer and winter schools for teaching Turkish as a foreign language. Her editorial and refereeing roles in journals such as European Journal of Educational Research , The IAFOR Journal of Education , and TESOL Journal highlight her active engagement in the academic community. She has also served as session chair at numerous international conferences, including ICONSED, ICONSOS, and ERPA. She is actively involved in academic service, including administrative roles such as department head at Istanbul Health Sciences University and Mersin University, and membership in Bologna and education committees.
