Assistant Professor
Ioli Campos is an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Human Sciences, Católica University of Portugal, and a researcher at the Research Centre for Communication and Culture (CECC). Her work bridges academia and professional practice, with a focus on media literacy, digital media, journalism, and youth engagement with technology. Education: PhD in Digital Media, Portugal Collaborative Program (The University of Texas at Austin and Nova University of Lisbon) Master’s in Journalism, Nova University of Lisbon Fulbright Visiting Scholar, The University of Texas at Austin Her research centers on media literacy, children’s interactions with digital media, algorithms, chatbots, and influencers, as well as innovative storytelling in journalism and environmental reporting. She investigates how young audiences perceive news and digital content, with a strong emphasis on gender, ethics, and education. Her work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly in education and global citizenship. The analysis of her recent publications reveals a consistent focus on digital media’s societal impact, especially on youth. She explores AI, chatbots, media narratives, and educational interventions across diverse formats including book chapters, reports, and peer-reviewed articles. Her research is interdisciplinary, combining communication, psychology, and education. Scientific Awards: Reportage Award from the United Nations National Committee for the 50th Anniversary of the Human Rights Declaration Honour Mention in Environmental Reporting from the Portuguese Sustainable Cities Association Campos has supervised graduate students and led research activities, including serving as national Principal Investigator in EU-funded projects with budgets up to €600,000. She has extensive experience in national and international research consortia and has consulted for organizations such as the OSCE and the Council of Europe. She actively contributes to academic discourse through conference organization and invited talks. She is a key member of CECC, where she collaborates on interdisciplinary projects related to communication and digital culture. Her recent project 'Comunicação e Inteligência Artificial: Perspetivas multidisciplinares' (2023–2025) exemplifies her engagement with cutting-edge topics in AI and media.
