Senior Lecturer
David Morris is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Computer Science, specializing in Computer Vision and Image Processing. He holds a BSc in Physics from Southampton University and a PhD in Medical Physics from the University of Sheffield. His research focuses on real-time video processing, texture measurement, medical image interpretation, and perceptual interfaces. He has authored two textbooks: Multimedia Systems and Computer Vision and Image Processing , and is a member of IEEE technical committees. Currently supervising one research student (Najlaa), he has previously guided 7 MPhil and 23 PhD students. His work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to innovation and infrastructure. Research Interests: Real-time video processing, medical imaging applications, and smart environments. His recent work explores human behavior prediction in smart environments using machine learning and contextual data analysis. Projects include UAV-based computer vision frameworks and X-ray CT applications in hydrocarbon exploration. Advising and Grants: Supervised 30+ postgraduate students; involved in projects like 'Vision-based Waste Lithium-Ion Battery Detection for Recycling Plants' and 'Waste Management Deep Learning'. Active in organizing academic events like the Computer Graphics & Visual Computing Conference 2018. Labs/Teams: Member of the Advanced Interfaces/Computer Vision Research Group.
