Stefan Filipov Stefanov is Professor of Economics at New Bulgarian University (NBU) , Sofia, where he has taught macroeconomics, international economics and business since 1998. He also serves as guest lecturer at the College of Management, Trade and Marketing – Sofia, and has held advisory roles in the Bulgarian Parliament and the Office of the President of Bulgaria. Education includes a PhD in Economics (specialty “World Economy and International Economic Relations”) from Lomonosov Moscow State University (1978), preceded by an MA in International Economic Relations from the University of National and World Economy, Sofia (1972). He further specialised at the American University, Washington DC; Harvard University Salzburg Seminar; Heriot-Watt University Institute for Computer-Based Learning; the UK House of Commons Library; and various EU and Dutch institutes. Research interests centre on: Macroeconomic theory and policy International trade and competitiveness Transition from centrally-planned to market economies EU integration and monetary arrangements Economic policy analysis for Bulgaria and Central & Eastern Europe His scholarly output comprises four monographs, five textbooks (including two editions of International Economics ), and more than 50 peer-reviewed articles. Recurring themes are the effects of the Washington Consensus, the currency board regime in Bulgaria, and strategies for improving national competitiveness in the context of EU accession.
