Associate Professor
Dr. Geoffrey Hyett is an Associate Professor in Chemistry at the University of Southampton, specializing in functional inorganic materials with a focus on mixed anion materials and thin film technologies. He leads research into photocatalysts, p-type conductivity, and chemical vapour deposition (CVD) applications. Education: MChem (2002) and PhD (2005) in Chemistry from the University of Oxford. His career includes roles at University College London and the University of Leeds before joining Southampton in 2013, where he was promoted to Associate Professor in 2020. Research interests include designing novel materials for energy and environmental applications, such as photocatalytic water treatment and battery materials. His work combines experimental synthesis with computational modeling. Key awards include the Ramsay Research Fellowship (2009), Royal Society Research Grant (2014), and Leverhulme Trust funding (2014). Current projects involve Z-scheme photocatalysts for hydrogen production and p-type transparent conductors. Teaching responsibilities include solid-state materials chemistry and sustainable chemistry modules for undergraduate and graduate students. He supervises multiple PhD students in materials science and energy-related research.
