Dr. Alex Davies is a Lecturer in Media Arts at the University of New South Wales within the School of Arts, Design & Architecture. His academic work bridges the gap between traditional artistic practices and emerging technologies, with a particular focus on creating immersive experiences that challenge perception. His research interests include: Immersive Media and Interactive Arts Creative Technology applications Spatial Sound and Spatial Cinema Mixed Reality and Illusion techniques Narrative Environments and Scenography Davies' scholarly work demonstrates a consistent exploration of how stage magic techniques can inform contemporary media art practices, particularly in creating compelling illusions within digital environments. His publications span interactive installations, telepresence systems, and creative robotics applications in art contexts. As a supervisor, he guides practice-based postgraduate research in both Masters and PhD programs, emphasizing the integration of theoretical frameworks with creative production. His approach to supervision focuses on the development of original artistic research that pushes boundaries in interactive media. Davies maintains an active creative practice with exhibitions across Australia and internationally, supported by grants from the Australia Council's various boards including Inter-Arts, Music, Visual Arts, and New Media.
