Professor
Tammam SİPAHİ is a Professor of Biophysics at Trakya University Faculty of Medicine, where he has served since 2000, progressing from Assistant Professor to Associate Professor (2011) and full Professor (2016). His academic foundation was built at Marmara University, where he completed his doctoral studies in 1999 with research on G protein expression regulation. His educational journey includes a Bachelor's degree (1991), Master's degree (1993), and Doctoral degree (1999), all from Marmara University. His doctoral thesis investigated The regulation of G protein expression in normal and abnormal conditions , establishing his early focus on molecular mechanisms. SİPAHİ's research centers on genetic polymorphisms and their clinical implications across multiple disease domains. He has pioneered investigations into MTHFR, eNOS, ACE, and AGT gene variants in ischemic stroke, diabetic complications, hypertension, and cancer pathogenesis. His work bridges molecular biophysics with clinical medicine, emphasizing how genetic variations influence disease susceptibility and progression through pathways like oxidative stress, endothelial dysfunction, and metabolic dysregulation. Recent studies increasingly integrate meta-analytical approaches to strengthen genetic association evidence. Analysis of his 100+ publications (2023-2025) reveals a dominant focus on systematic reviews and meta-analyses of genetic risk factors, particularly for stroke and diabetes complications. Over 60% of recent work employs advanced statistical methodologies like Trial Sequential Analysis. Significant attention is given to trace element metabolism in neurological disorders and renin-angiotensin system genetics in cardiovascular diseases, reflecting his dual expertise in molecular mechanisms and population-level clinical correlations. Professor SİPAHİ has advised doctoral and master's students, with records of one doctoral dissertation (2023) and two master's theses (2017, 2008). He serves on the Editorial Advisory Board of the Turkish Medical Student Journal and actively referees for major genetics and neurology journals, with over 50 referee assignments documented between 2021-2024 covering stroke genetics, migraine pathophysiology, and cancer biomarkers.
