Dr. Govindarajan Ramesh is a Professor of Biochemistry in the Department of Biology & Center for Materials Research at Norfolk State University. He holds a MS and PhD in Biochemistry/Biotechnology and has over 29 years of academic experience. His research focuses on nanomaterials synthesis for biomedical applications and space radiation effects on the central nervous system. He currently mentors two PhD students and has advised over 35 masters, 34 doctoral students, and 7 post-doctoral fellows. Dr. Ramesh has secured over $75M in grants as PI/Co-PI since 1996, including active NSF funding. He serves on review panels for NSF, Department of Defense, and European Space Agency, and holds editorial roles in journals like Journal of Nanoscience & Nanotechnology and Neural Regeneration Research . His lab (DRW 107) specializes in nanomaterials characterization and space biology research. Research interests include: Synthesis and biocompatibility of quantum materials for medical use Microgravity and space radiation impact on CNS Environmental pollutant effects on neurological systems Publications highlight advancements in nanoparticle biosensing, green synthesis methods, and material safety protocols. He actively promotes training in nanotechnology and space research for undergraduates, graduates, and postdocs.
