Annmarie Urso is Professor of Special Education in the School of Education at SUNY Geneseo, where she has taught since 2008. She holds a Ph.D. from the University of Arizona, M.S.Ed. from SUNY Oneonta, and B.S. from College of St. Rose. A recipient of the SUNY Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Faculty Service (2019), she specializes in learning disabilities and dyslexia. Her research focuses on assessment and intervention for learning disabilities, Response to Intervention (RTI) models, and preparing culturally responsive educators. She has developed innovative programs including the undergraduate and graduate Integrative Curricular Microcredential in Dyslexia and the Soaring Stars summer program. Dr. Urso's publications center on scaffolding instruction, special education practices, and literacy interventions, with consistent emphasis on evidence-based strategies for diverse learners. Scientific Awards: SUNY Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Faculty Service (2019) She has secured over $1.6 million in grant funding, including significant awards from the New York State Education Department and Qatar National Research Fund. Dr. Urso serves as President of the International Academy for Research in Learning Disabilities and former President of the New York State Council for Exceptional Children. She actively contributes to community initiatives through the Livingston County Community Services Board and the Student Success Project.
