Professor
Peter Delfyett is the Pegasus Professor in the Department of Physics at the University of Central Florida (UCF), part of the College of Sciences. His research focuses on advanced laser technologies, optical frequency combs, and integrated photonics with applications in aerospace, communications, and signal processing. He holds notable awards including membership in the National Academy of Engineering and AAAS Fellow status. His work emphasizes semiconductor-based optical frequency combs, mode-locked laser systems, and photonics for aerospace applications. Key innovations include chip-scale InP-PIC lasers, electro-optic comb stabilization techniques, and all-fiber interferometers. Delfyett’s research bridges fundamental optics with practical systems, addressing challenges in linewidth narrowing, broadband signal generation, and space-qualified optoelectronics. Awards: National Academy of Engineering Member (2021), AAAS Fellow (2023) Key Labs: CREOL (Center for Research and Education in Optics and Lasers) Focus Areas: Frequency comb stabilization, semiconductor lasers, optical synchronization, and photonic integrated circuits Recent work demonstrates advancements in multi-tone injection locking, THz-range comb generation, and inverse-designed optical interconnects. His contributions have been applied to space instrumentation, high-speed data transmission, and coherent optical signal processing.
