Professor
Dr. Terence P. McGonigle is a Professor in the Department of Biology at Brandon University, Canada. He teaches courses like Plant Diversity (15:371) and Soil Biology (15:468). His research focuses on plant-soil interactions, microbial ecology, and invasive species management in prairie and arid ecosystems. He has advised over 15 graduate and undergraduate students since 2006. Key research areas include: Mycorrhizal fungi dynamics in agricultural and natural systems Impacts of invasive species like Typha and leafy spurge on ecosystems Soil health indicators through microbial biomass analysis Nutrient cycling in grasslands and croplands Phytoremediation of contaminated soils using plants Recent work (2020-2022) emphasizes taxonomic identification of invasive Typha hybrids and their ecological impacts. Earlier studies (2007-2015) explored nitrogen cycling in wastewater-amended soils and mycorrhizal responses to crop rotations. Dr. McGonigle has supervised M.Sc. students including Kaylin Liddle (soil health), Kathryn Barr (aspen ecology), and Vanessa Rosenkranz (grassland insect diversity). Undergraduate projects involve topics like bee population assessments and cadmium accumulation in crops. His lab is located in Room 3-06, John R. Brodie Science Centre, Brandon University. Active research continues into prairie grassland restoration and microbial contributions to soil fertility.
