Francesco Mazzola is a Tenure-Track Assistant Professor of Finance at ESCP Business School , Turin Campus. His research focuses on the role of financial intermediaries in the economy, with a particular emphasis on housing markets, FinTech, and macro finance. He completed his PhD in Finance at Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University, and was a visiting scholar at Bocconi University, Boston College, and the Bank of England. Education PhD in Finance, Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University Francesco’s research spans banking theory, financial regulation, and empirical finance. His work on open banking explores consumer data sharing and fintech entry, while his earlier studies examine pandemic-related business closures and fire sales in mortgage markets. His articles have been published in top journals like Journal of Financial Economics , Journal of Finance , and PLoS ONE , with findings highlighted by institutions such as the World Bank and CFPB. His research has received multiple accolades, including the ERIM PhD Seminar Series Best Paper Award , the SUERF/UniCredit Foundation Prize , and the FINEST Best Paper Award . He co-organizes the annual Corporate Finance and Financial Institutions workshop at ESCP and has supervised over 70 master’s and 25 bachelor’s theses. Francesco’s teaching portfolio at ESCP includes undergraduate and graduate courses on Finance, Investment Banking, and FinTech, while earlier at Rotterdam School of Management, he taught Micro Economics and Corporate Finance.
