Professor
Professor Nelson Tansu is the Head of the School of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering and Professor of Quantum Electronics at The University of Adelaide. Previously, he held the Daniel E. '39 and Patricia M. Smith Endowed Chair Professorship in Electrical and Computer Engineering at Lehigh University and directed the Center for Photonics and Nanoelectronics. His research focuses on semiconductor materials, photonics, quantum devices, and biomedical technologies. He is an IEEE Fellow (2021) and NAI Fellow (2016), and a Clarivate Highly Cited Researcher (2018). Research Interests: III-nitride semiconductors, quantum materials, power electronics, and machine learning-driven material discovery. Awards: Includes IEEE Fellow, NAI Fellow, and recognition as a Clarivate Highly Cited Researcher. Grants: Secured over US$13.92 million in funding from U.S. agencies for semiconductor research. Teaching: At Lehigh, taught courses on semiconductor physics, photonics, and quantum mechanics for engineers. His work bridges semiconductor engineering with biomedical applications, emphasizing sustainable and quantum technologies.
