Associate Professor
Lauren Ferrante, MD, MHS, is an Associate Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at Yale School of Medicine, specializing in Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine. She serves as a Core Director at the Yale Claude D. Pepper Older Americans Independence Center and is actively involved in the Winchester Center for Lung Disease and the RECOVER Program. Her work integrates geriatrics and critical care to understand the impact of frailty, cognitive impairment, and socioeconomic factors on long-term disability and mortality. She leads NIH-funded studies such as LANTERN and VALIANT, and her research has been instrumental in shaping care models that prioritize functional preservation during and after critical illness. Her recent publications reveal strong trends in post-ICU functional decline, with a focus on predictive modeling, social determinants of health, and multimodal risk factors like frailty and isolation. These works are published in top-tier journals including JAMA Internal Medicine , Annals of Internal Medicine , and Critical Care Medicine . She mentors trainees and contributes to academic leadership as Student Thesis Chair in Internal Medicine and through her role in the American Thoracic Society’s Critical Care Program Committee. She is affiliated with research teams including the Yale Center for Geriatric Epidemiology and the Yale Center for Health & Learning Games, and leads the Whisk Cup research stream under the RECOVER initiative.
