Ilan Alon is a Professor of Strategy and International Marketing at the School of Business and Law, University of Agder. He holds a Ph.D. from Kent State University (USA) and has held previous research positions at Harvard University, Georgetown University, and Copenhagen Business School. His research focuses on international business, including internationalization strategies, political risk, cultural intelligence, and emerging markets. Alon is Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Emerging Markets and European Journal of International Management (SSCI-ranked). He collaborates with governments, NGOs, and multinational corporations such as USAID, illy, Darden, and Disney. Alon is also a frequent contributor to major media outlets like National Public Radio and the Financial Times. His research interests include franchising, blockchain-based governance, automated machine learning applications, and cross-cultural leadership. Over 150+ publications span journals like Harvard Business Review and book publishers like Palgrave Macmillan and Routledge. His recent work explores decentralized autonomous organizations, maritime risk prediction, and leadership in global virtual teams. Alon has advised on macro-level capacity development projects and firm-level international strategies.
