Dr. Colleen Mouw is a Professor at the University of Rhode Island's Graduate School of Oceanography and currently serves as the Acting Dean of the Graduate School . Her research focuses on biological oceanography using optical tools to study phytoplankton community structure, carbon cycling, and physical drivers in marine and freshwater systems. Ph.D. in Oceanography, University of Rhode Island M.S. in Oceanography, University of Rhode Island B.S. in Biology, Western Michigan University Her work spans phytoplankton ecology , remote sensing of ocean color , and climate change impacts on marine biogeochemistry. Recent publications highlight advancements in hyperspectral optical property analysis , HAB prediction using imaging , and global carbon cycling models . Dr. Mouw has received prestigious recognitions including the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE) in 2016 . She actively mentors students and leads initiatives like the MPOWIR program to support women in physical oceanography. Her lab utilizes cutting-edge facilities including the Imaging FlowCytobot at URI's Coastal Institute.
