Clinical Professor
Marianne Tang Severinsen is a Clinical Professor at Aalborg University Hospital, affiliated with the Department of Haematology within the Faculty of Medicine. Her research focuses on hematological malignancies, epidemiology, and clinical outcomes. She leads studies on cancer treatment accessibility, environmental health risks (e.g., PFAS exposure in surfers), and disparities in cancer survival among immigrant populations. Her work integrates population-based cohort studies and register data to analyze disease incidence, treatment efficacy, and long-term outcomes. Her research interests span hematology, oncology, and public health, with a particular emphasis on acute and chronic leukemias, lymphoma, and the impact of environmental and pharmacological factors on hematological disorders. She has contributed to over 200 publications and datasets, including studies on second primary malignancies, work disability among cancer survivors, and the validation of diagnostic registers. Key areas of investigation include: Cancer recurrence and treatment-related toxicities Spatial and temporal trends in hematological malignancies Health equity in cancer care for vulnerable populations Environmental contaminants (e.g., PFAS) and health risks Her articles highlight trends in cohort-based studies, clinical trial participation, and the application of machine learning for survival prediction in Hodgkin lymphoma. She collaborates on national and international projects, including the Daliah trial and studies on minimal residual disease in multiple myeloma. Marianne supervises 6 PhD students and has received grants, including support from the Speciallæge Heinrich Kopps Legat. Her work bridges clinical practice, epidemiology, and policy, aiming to improve patient outcomes and healthcare equity.
