Dr. Sunish Kumar Orappanpara Soman serves as a Lecturer in Electronics and Software Engineering at Ulster University's School of Engineering, Belfast campus. He concurrently holds adjunct appointments as Professor at Memorial University of Newfoundland's Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and as International Faculty at Ulster College, Shaanxi University of Science and Technology in China. His academic background includes: B.Tech in Electronics and Communications Engineering from Cochin University of Science and Technology (2005) M.B.A. in Human Resource Management and Finance from Kerala University (2010) M.Tech in Optoelectronics and Communication Systems from Cochin University of Science and Technology (2013) Ph.D. in Computer Engineering from Memorial University of Newfoundland (2020) Dr. Soman's research focuses on the intersection of digital signal processing and machine learning within wireless and optical communications engineering. His work addresses critical challenges in fiber-optic nonlinearity compensation, signal-to-noise ratio estimation, and secure backscatter communication networks. Current projects explore 6G-enabled integrated sensing for climate monitoring and geothermal resource management, demonstrating practical applications of next-generation communication technologies. His recent publications reveal a strong emphasis on neural network applications for optical communication systems, with significant contributions to perturbation theory-based nonlinearity compensation techniques. The research portfolio spans from fundamental signal processing algorithms to experimental implementations of hybrid fiber-wireless systems for 5G/6G networks.
