Minsoo Sung is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Ohio University's Russ College of Engineering and Technology. He earned his B.S. in Architectural Engineering from Hanyang University (2016), followed by M.S. (2017) and Ph.D. (2023) in Civil Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. His research focuses on socio-resilient infrastructure using smart materials, particularly Shape Memory Alloys (SMAs), to enhance structural adaptability and sustainability. Key areas include topology optimization, additive manufacturing of cementitious materials, and adaptive prestressing systems for bridges and railway infrastructure. He has been actively involved in professional organizations such as the ASCE Retrofit of Structures Under Dynamic Loads committee. His publications emphasize SMA applications in concrete structures, bridge engineering, and railway crossties. Recent work explores hybrid material strategies for precast systems and computationally efficient modeling of structural behavior under cyclic loads.
