His lab receives significant grant support for projects addressing language deprivation and communication access in deaf communities. The VLAA Lab focuses on how early childhood language experiences impact lifelong quality of life outcomes for deaf communities, with particular attention to the social epidemics of language deprivation and communication neglect. The lab works through a multidisciplinary lens incorporating cognition, neuro- and socioemotional development, mental health, education, and public health perspectives.
