Dr. Sahara Byrne is Professor in the Department of Communication at Cornell University's College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. As Senior Associate Dean, she oversees academic initiatives while maintaining an active research program on unintended effects of persuasive messaging, particularly health campaigns targeting youth risk behaviors. She teaches courses in media effects, persuasion, media and human development, and strategic communication. Her pedagogical excellence has been recognized with multiple awards including the Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Teaching and Donald C. Burgett Distinguished Advising Award. Research focuses on: Youth resistance to health interventions E-cigarette warning effectiveness Risk communication paradoxes Visual attention to health warnings Emotional responses to prevention messages Publications demonstrate consistent examination of tobacco warning labels, with recent emphasis on e-cigarette regulations, message framing effects, and target audience segmentation. Studies employ diverse methods including focus groups, eye-tracking, and experimental designs.
