Peter Eibich is a Professor of Economics at Université Paris Dauphine-PSL and a Research Affiliate at IZA. Previously, he served as Deputy Head of the Research Group on Labor Demography at the Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research in Rostock, Germany (2017-2022) and as Senior Researcher in Health Economics at the Health Economics Research Centre at the University of Oxford (2015-2017). Dr. Eibich's primary research focuses on the economics of aging and retirement, examining social and economic determinants of health and health behavior in old age with particular attention to the transition from work to retirement. He also has strong expertise in the economics of preventive care, studying individuals' decisions regarding preventive health services such as breast cancer screening and HPV vaccination. His interdisciplinary approach has led to collaborations with researchers in medicine, psychology, demography, and sociology. His recent publications (through 2025) demonstrate continued active research in areas including grandparental childcare effects, mental health consequences of bereavement, economic precariousness in partnerships, and the relationship between retirement and health behaviors. His work often employs large-scale demographic datasets to analyze patterns across the life course. Dr. Eibich received his Ph.D. from the University of Hamburg, Germany, for his dissertation titled 'Regional Variation and Aging in Health Economics.' During his doctoral studies, he worked part-time as a research associate at the German Institute for Economic Research (DIW), where he was responsible for the socio-economic module of the Berlin Aging Study II (BASE-II).
